Stability analysis of a nanopatterned bimaterial interface

In the article it is shown that nanopatterned interface of bimaterial unstable due to diffusion atom flux along interface. The main goal research analyze conditions stability. authors developed a model coupling thermodynamics and solid mechanics frameworks. accordance with Gurtin—Murdoch theory surface/interface elasticity, interphase between two materials considered as negligibly thin layer elastic properties differing from those bulk materials. growth rate roughness depends on variation chemical potential at curved interface, which function stresses. stress distribution found solution plane elasticity problem taking into account strain conditions. Following this, linearized evolution equation derived, describes amplitude change perturbation time.
